Museo di Arte Antica:

The collections of the museum dates back from the 4th to the 16th Centuries.

Room 1 hosts the collections of Roman and Early Christian period such as the sarcophagus of Lambrate, the Good Shepherd, tomb frescoes from San Giovanni in Conca, fragments of the old basilica of Santa Tecla and the Byzantine head of the Empress Theodora.

Room 2 has Romanesque items dating back to the 12th and 13th Centuries like the fragment with the Three Kings, works by Benedetto Antelami, the tomb of Bernabo Visconti by Bonino da Campione.

Room 3 is the chapel of San Donato. It hosts the Blessing Redeemer and a relief with a knight presented to the Virgin Mary, a statue of St James the Greater, sarcophagus of friar Mirano di Bachaloe, statue of Madonna and Child, St Ambrose, a Madonna between Saints Babila, Ambrose, Benedict and Dionysius, the tomb of Bianca di Savoia and the tomb of Antonello Arcimboldi.

Room 4 hosts Tabernacle which is the work of a Burgundian master, coat-of-arms of the Spanish King Philip II and his wife Mary Tudor, 14th century Madonna, stone slab with Pieta, architectural remains of the façade of the S. Maria di Brera Church and sepulchral monument of the Rusca family.

In Room 5 the tomb of G. Lanfranchi, 15th century Venetian sculpture, Kiss of Judas and a headless Madonna by G. Pisano are kept.

Room 6 has the bas-relief of the Return of the Milanese to Milan after the sack of Barbarossa and St Ambrose Chsing out The Arians.

On the walls of Room 7 there are tapestries from Mantua and the Flemish School of the 18th century. Banner of the city which was made by Giuseppe Meda in 1566 is located at the centre of the room. Episodes from the Life of St Ambrose and Italian coat-of-arms are represented by the silk, gold and silver figures at the two sides. The statue of Adam by Stoldo Lorenzi, the marble bust of Ottavio Farnese and the busts of Roman Emperors are kept in this room.

Room 8 is called Room of the Wooden Planks due to the the wooden wainscoting walls at the lowers sections during the time of Galeazzo Maria Sforza. The walls of this room are decorated and painted with tree trunks by Leonardo. On the right of the room there's a small door leading to the Bridge of Ludovico il Moro by Bramante.

Room 9 is known as the Black Room. Ludovico il Moro, after his wife’s death, used this room for meditation. In this room, there are medallions with Portraits of the Sforza painted by Bernardino Luini and sculptures made by Bambaia during the 16th century, decorating the Birago tomb in the San Francesco Grande Church.

In Room 10 there are the portraits of members of the Sforza family by B. Luini as well as the sculptures of Lombard and Tuscan of the 16th century.

Room 11 is also called the Room of the Dukes. It used to be an audience hall during the time of Dukedom. The room has the coats-of-arms of the Sforza dynasty with the initials of Galeazzo Maria Sforza on, a stone slab with an Allegorical Scene by Agostino di Duccio.

Room 12 was decorated by Stefano de Fedeli and his assistance in 1466-1476 with the order of Galeazzo Maria Sforza. There is Coazzone or Praying Madonna statue in the centre of the room, Madonna and Child, an Angel, Gothic art of the 15th century and Angel Musicians.

Room 13 is known as Sala delle Colombine which means the room of the doves. There are the sculptures of Angels and Anchorites by Cristoforo Mantegazza and Angels by Amadeo.

Room 14 is known as the Green Room because of the color of the walls. Portal of the Medici Bank by the Florentine, The Roman Orsini Portal of the 16th century, the Bentivoglio Portal of the 16th century, the capitals from the Portico of Figini coming from Piazza del Duomo, Lombard and Renaissance weapons and the 16th century Italian and German armor are kept in this room.
