There are many free museums in Milan. Almost all state-owned museums are open from Tuesday to Sunday between 09:00-19:00. Hours may change according to season and location.

However private museums have their own openning and closing times. The local tourist office has information.

Archaeological sites are open from 09:00 to an hour before sunset.

Admission to the churches is generally free. Dressing should be modest when visiting religious sites. There should be no sleeveless shirts, mini shorts or skirts or bare feet and shoulders should be covered.

Taking photos is banned in almost all museums. At the churches and cathedrals it is not premitted to film or take photos during services.

Museums are generally closed on Mondays.

The Milan Welcome Card includes a day travel pass, discount vouchers to some attractions, a map of the city, a CD of classical music and a short guide to the city. It is sold at the tourist information offices.
