Gian Galeazzo Visconti - First Duke of Milan

Gian Galeazzo Visconti lived between 1351 and 1402. He was the son of Galeazzo II Visconti and Bianca di Savoia.

He was the first Duke of Milan. He was the founder of the Certosa di Pavia.

In 1385 Gian Galeazzo gained control of Milan.

With his first marriage to Isabelle of Valois he took the title of comte de Vertus in Champagne, in Italian Conte di Virtù. He was known by this title in first years of his career.

After he invaded Milan he took Verona, Vicenza, and Padua and became the ruler of each city and soon enough took the control of almost all of Po valley. By paying 100 thousand florins to the King of the Romans Wenceslaus he received the title of Duke of Milan in 1395.

His dream was uniting all of northern Italy into one kingdom as the Lombard empire.

Galeazzo's dreams were about to come true however he died in 1402.
