Gelato - Type of Italian Ice Cream

Gelato, meaning ice cream, is a traditional dessert in Italy. Gelato is made of whole milk, eggs, sugar, and natural flavorings.

Gelato drives from freeze or frozen. It is called gelati in plural form.

Traditional Flavors are banana, Chocolate (Cioccolato), Coconut (Noce di Cocco), Coffee (Caffè), Custard (Crema), Dulce de leche, Frutti di Bosco, Hazelnut (Nocciola), Lemon (Limone), Mint (Menta), Panna cotta, Peach (Pesca), Pistachio (Pistacchio), Stracciatella, Strawberry (Fragola), Tiramisù, Vanilla (Vaniglia)

There are some differences between ice cream and Gelato. For example ice cream has a minimum of 10 percent fat, whereas Gelato contains five to seven percent fat.

Gelato is mixed at a slower speed than ice cream, so it's denser as not much air is whipped into the mixture and ice cream is served frozen, Gelato is stored and served at a slightly warmer temperature.

A Gelateria is a shop where Gelati are sold.
