Donato Bramante Biography

World's most gifted architect, known for his High Renaissance style of Roman architecture was Bramnte, an Italian (1444 - 1514) born in Fermingnano near Urbino. Stimulated through great works of painting, Bramante moved to Italy in 1474. He was friendly with great painters like Melosso da Forli and Piero della Francesca who were fascinated in the rules of perception and illusionist skin texture in Mantegna's painting.

Milan's life form a city of Gothic architectural tradition stirred him to construct churches with a modern - antique form. His work was valued and he was chosen as the court architect in 1467 by the Duke, Ludovico Sforza. The church of Santa Maria presso San Satiro is fabulous. Combining the painting work of perception with Roman details his style of architecture gained world recognition. Santa Maria delle Grazie, other constructions in Pavia and Legnano were also master pieces.

In 1499, after French invasion, Donato Bramnate moved to Rome where he was known to the influential Cardinal Riario who became Pope Julius II. Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio on the Janiculum was the most harmonious construction erected by him. He got engaged in rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica. His other works include Cortile del Belvedere at Vatican City. This great architect's major profile revolved around Milan and his erected structures have made Milano one of the best cities today. Milano's beauty has been glorified on account of his eye beguiling Roman monuments.
