Alessandro Verri Biography

Born in Milan on 9th November, 1741 into an aristocratic family, took up writing as a profession and joined the II Caffe. His main work began with Essays on Italian History (1761-1766). Gradually he developed interest in the theater world and shifted to Italy. He began to translate Shakespeare's plays. This inspiration drove him to produce two tragedies Pantea and LA congiura di Milano ("The Conjure of Milan").

His most famous work, Roman Nights at Scipiones' Sepulchre (1792 and 1804) were ghost stories of the illustrious men of the past which evoked the Roman Civilizations and highlighted the violent atmosphere that prevailed during that era.

His remarkable pen has inked the spectacular literature master pieces like Life of Hero stratus. Memorable happenings of His Times from 1789-1801 is a noteworthy book about the relationship that he shared with his brother, Pietro Verri who died in Rome in 1861.
